If the turnout for Friday's opener at Latrobe Speedway is any indication, the race circuit is off to a great start this year! Several hundred fans and riders turned out to enjoy a great night under the lights. George Teslovich and his crew set the bar high with an immaculate track that hosted 18 motos well into the evening.

Another local track, Pittsburgh Raceway Park, has joined also the District 5 series. Best known for the adjoining drag strip, PRP is an amazing track that boasts something for everyone- from quads to minis, beginner to pro! PRP will run both the Spring Series and the MX Championship Series. In a effort to maximize the experience for all riders, quads and bikes will race on separate tracks. AMA District 5 will also hold Round 4 of it's Rider Appreciation Days at PRP, the date of which has yet to be announced.

Good Luck to all the racers out there this year-see you at the track!!!

If you hadn't heard yet, local MX legend 'Mad' Mike Jones went mad in Miami Airport earlier this week. After a return flight from Costa Rica, Jones was held over at Miami International Airport. Jones proceeded to attack (apparently unprovoked) two service workers and required five officers and a taser to be subdued.  Click here for the article...

Latrobe Speedway AX Banquet PDF Print E-mail

The annual Latrobe Speedway Arenacross banquet was a great success this year! Well over two hundred riders and family members attended the dinner, which was held at the Uniontown Holiday Inn. Many of the younger riders took advantage of the hotel's many amenities, including the indoor pool and adjacent gameroom. Those in the know planned ahead and reserved one of the many courtyard rooms overlooking the evening's festivities.
This year's trophies were especially unique and featured a photo of each rider on the face of the plaque. All photos were provided by Holeshot Imaging, who also presented a slide show of season highlights.  Along with rider awards, there were many raffles and giveaways throughout the night. Prizes included gear, clothing and gift certificates from track sponsors & local businesses, including Get High Racewear.
Our special thanks go out to George and Elaine Teslovich and the rest of the Latrobe Speedway family for their hospitality. We look forward to working with their crew to further the sport of motocross throughout Western Pennsylvania. See you at the track!

If you're like the staff here at GHR, you've been working on your bike the last few weeks to get everything ready for that first ride. Well, it's here! With the snow gone and a solid week of (almost) dry, sunny weather, the local tracks are coming out of hibernation.

*Creekside Motocross, located in West Newton, has planned to open Friday March 19. With a whole new layout and a brand new pit/parking set up, this looks to be a great kickoff for the folks at Creekside.

*Another great track, Plum Creek, is set to open Saturday March 20. Weather permitting, there's an open ride from 11am to 4pm. If you want to make sure to be the first on the track, they always offer free camping!

*High Voltage MX Park will also open Saturday from 11am to 3pm. They're under new ownership this year so keep an eye out for some fresh changes! All members for the 2010 season will be entered in a drawing for some free Answer Alpha Gear courtesy of Crossroads Motosports. Also avaliable this year is an online waiver form-fill it out ahead of time to save time at the gate.

We'll keep you updated as other tracks open for the season. Be sure to browse over to our links page for connections to all the best spots. See you at the track!

Nuclear Cowboyz Rock the Igloo! PDF Print E-mail

The Nuclear Cowboyz kicked off the first of 15 tours right here in Pittsburgh on Saturday night. Performing to a house packed to the rafters, members of the Metal Mulisha and the Soldiers of Havoc battled for dominace in a Mad Max-style scene. Led by Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg, Mulisha members included Ronnie Faisst, Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Todd Potter, Taka Higashino and others. The Soldiers of Havoc consisted of Matt Buyten, Nate Adams and many more-including 'Burgh native Adam Jones.

Said Jones, "It felt awesome doing the show in front of the hometown crowd. The show was really a lot of fun and we hope the crowd dug it...A lot of work went into Nuclear Cowboyz, we are pumped to be part of it."

Missing from the show was Havoc member Mike Mason, who went down in practice and spent some time in a local hospital. In hindsight, Mason reflects "that this kind of thing happens all the time in our sport and I was very thankful that a sore melon was all I got..." He plans to rejoin the tour on their next stop in Richmond this weekend.

The tour breaks new ground in the Freestyle genre, bringing together edge-of-your-seat entertainment with the best athletes in the sport. According to Ken Feld, the show's producer, “Nuclear Cowboyz will ignite the arena floor with freestyle motocrossers defying gravity in this post-apocalyptic atmosphere, leaving the audience with an unbelievable and unprecedented adrenaline-rush."

If you missed the Pittsburgh show, there's 14 more to follow! Check out the link below for a complete listing of tour dates and ticket information.
