For two weeks in a row, the races at Latrobe Motosports Speedway had to be called due to rain. After dodging the first round of heavy cloud cover earlier in the evening, it looked like the race just might go on. However, at about 9:30 round two rolled in over the hill and let loose on the track. Everyone crossed their fingers it would pass over, but after about 20 minutes of hard downpour, the second moto was cancelled. Like Mark Lynch says-"Always make your first moto your best!"
If you missed out on all the fun at the track last nite, don't miss out again this afternoon. Hillview Motosports (the old Z&M) on Rt. 30 in Latrobe is putting on a FREE Freestyle Sportbike show today at 11am and 1pm. Last weekend's Freestyle MX show was awesome and featured some great talent including local legend Mad Mike Jones! Keep an eye out for the GHR staff-be the first to mention you heard about the show here and we'll hook you up with one of our new shirts.
In District 5 news, the AMA Spring Series will continue tomorrow at Field of Dreams in Boswell. This historic track has been the host of many Loretta Lynn qualifiers, as well as a nationally televised ATV event in 2007. Located not far off Rt. 30 near Jennerstown, its an easy trip to come out and support your local riders. |

The AMA District 5 Spring Series race originally slated for last week at Latrobe Motosports Speedway has been further postponed. The tentative makeup date has been rescheduled for early August. Continue to check back for further updates.
Meanwhile, the regular Speedway series continues this Friday, as long as the weather cooperates! This week is Lojack's Cycle Night, their first night sponsoring the event. According to the folks at Latrobe Speedway, an unnamed donor and District 5 supported has made a very generous donation in an effort to "break the all-time record for 50cc participation." The prizes include 4 iPod Shuffles, 4 iTunes gift cards and a portable LCD DVD player! The iPods will be awarded in the AMA 50cc classes 1 through 4. The DVD player will be raffled from among all registered 50cc riders during intermission.
If you have a youngster who shows an interest in racing motocross, this is definitely the summer to brings them out to Latrobe Motosports Speedway. It's truly the most family-friendly track around!

Unfortunately, there was not a large enough turn out for Round 5 of the 'Racing Under the Lights' series to continue this evening at Plumcreek Valley. Much to the disappointment of the two dozen + riders that did come out to show their support, the race was cancelled. The management of the track graciously offered a full refund to all that did attend. After months of hard work and preparation, the crew was disappointed at the lack of support shown by area riders. Located just off Rt. 422, Plumcreek Valley is new to the Distric 5 race series. Their spacious facility offers two great tracks, ample parking, FREE CAMPING and the best concession stand we've seen! Some of the tempting treats on the menu included buffalo and bison burgers, oreo sundaes, onion rings, corn dogs and much more! The next 'Racing Under the Lights' race at Plumcreek will be held on July 24. Gates open at noon, practice at 4, racing immediately to follow. It takes more than a just a cool shirt to show your love of the sport so come out and enjoy a great time at Plumcreek!

Once again, several hundred riders and fans turned out for Friday's race at Latrobe Motorsports Speedway. This week's race was sponsored by Four Brother's Racing, based in Apollo. Throughout the night they raffled and awarded over $1.000 worth of prizes! The predicted rain held off until well after the evening had ended, although heavy winds battered the track for the last few motos.
This Sunday, Pittsburgh Raceway Park will be host to it's first District 5 AMA Spring Series race. Located adjacent to Keystone Raceway, PRP is a great track that boasts something for everyone. The track is open for practice on Thursday (4pm-dusk), Saturday (10am-4pm) and Sunday (10am-4pm). Tomorrow's race will feature plenty of holeshot and podium awards, as well as a Fox chest protector prize package for winners in the 50cc classes. Get High Racewear will be presenting a Holeshot Award of a $25 gift certificate. Other prize sponsors include: Kali Protectives, O'Neal, EBC Brakes, Fly Racing, Matrix Concepts, Motion Pro, EVS, WPS, Angel's World of Cycles and Mosites Motorsports. |
